State College Police: Emu Incident Brings No Injuries, No Charges

The owner of a lost emu that was captured Friday in College Township was not immediately cited for any wrongdoing, and it appears that he will not face any police action, State College police said Friday afternoon.

Police identified the emu owner as Edward Agostinelli, of Hess Road in Boalsburg. He told the Centre Daily Times that three emus escaped from his property Sunday.

The last one to be recovered, caught about 12:30 p.m. Friday in a Charles Street backyard, died shortly after it was rounded up, according to the CDT report. The other two were caught Thursday, the newspaper reported.

State College police said six people — four police officers, one animal-control officer and Agostinelli — were involved in corralling the last emu on Friday. It had been spotted about 11 a.m. Friday near Scenery Drive and Atherton Street, according to a police report.

Authorities tracked the roughly six-foot-tall bird to Charles Street, between the Centre Hills Country Club and the Mount Nittany Expressway, police said. There, it was captured and loaded into a trailer, where it settled in for the trip back to the Boalsburg area, police said.

Police said no one — no people, no birds — was injured in the capture of the emu Friday.
