With the holiday season nearing, the Salvation Army of State College is in need of volunteer bell ringers for its annual Red Kettle fundraising campaign.

The traditional bell ringers and red kettles are the organization’s most recognizable fundraising effort and will seek to raise thousands of dollars to support programs and services in Centre County.

‘We are extremely grateful for the on-going community support and generosity,’ said Lt. Staci Ferreira, Corps Officer in the Salvation Army of State College. ‘Volunteers and donors are essential to our ability to help our neighbors in need.’

Bell ringing opportunities are open for individuals and groups, and volunteers are asked to ring bells while standing alongside red kettles to collect monetary donations for shifts of at least two hours and up to six hours Monday through Saturday. Kettles will be stationed outside both State College area Walmarts, Sam’s Club, Macy’s, and Moyer Jewelers until Dec. 23.

Community members who are interested in volunteering should contact Ferreira at (814) 861-1785 or Staci.Ferreira@use.salvationarmy.org for more information. Volunteers also can sign up by going to www.redkettlevolunteer.org and selecting ‘State College’ as their preferred location during registration.

The Salvation Army of State College serves more than 1,400 people in crisis locally each year, through programs and services including such as rent assistance, heat and utility payments, budget counseling, emergency disaster response, summer camp, food and holiday gift assistance, music instruction, children’s program, Sunday worship and Bible study.
