The State College Area School Board on Monday approved two bids totaling $188,550 for roof and entryway repairs at Ferguson Township Elementary School.

One project, which will take place this summer, will replace a section of flat rubber roof near the front of building that is out of warranty and due for replacement, Director of Physical Plant Mike Fisher wrote in a memo.

“The roof had previously been coated to provide a longer lifespan but the coating is now in poor condition,” Fisher wrote.

J.M. Young & Sons was awarded the contract with a low bid of $150,750 among five contractors who bid on the project.

The other project will remediate the school’s arched, south-facing entrance, which is showing signs of deterioration within the wood surface.

Work will include removal of any lead paint present along with repair or replacement of any wood showing signs of deterioration.

The board approved M&R Contracting’s low bid of $37,800 for the project. M&R was one of two bidders.

Both bids were approved 8-0. Board member Peter Buck was absent.
