A Penn State student was arrested Saturday after fighting with a police officer, according to a criminal complaint.
Mario Palarino, 19, of Coraopolis, was charged with aggravated assault, escape, resisting arrest, purchase of alcohol by a minor and possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage, police said.
Police saw Palarino walking along East Prospect Avenue with other males, some of whom had open cans of beer. When police shined a light on Palarino, he reportedly hid a can of beer behind his leg.
Police say they approached Palarino and told him to sit on the ground, causing Palarino to pull away from the officer. Police took Palarino by the hand and pulled him to the ground, telling him to stop resisting arrest, but Palarino allegedly began crawling away and kicking the officer in the collarbone and right shoulder.
Palarino eventually broke loose from the officer when he kicked the officer above the sternum, causing the officer to lose grip. Another patrol unit eventually picked up Palarino running near East Beaver Avenue.
The officer retained scratches to his elbows, but no major injuries.
