It’s been almost two months since Hurricane Maria swept through Puerto Rico and left many of its people homeless and in need of food and water.

Nearly 2,000 miles away, a Penn State student is among those finding away to help. The community service chair for her sorority, Alpha Xi Delta, she s been leading community service events since she was in the seventh grade. This year she wanted to go bigger.

She learned of an organization dedicated to adopting families in need of help and began organizing care packages to send to them. The effort grew when Alpha Xi Delta member Maddy Zacks brought on three other Greek life organizations.

Last week members from the four organizations filled the care packages with necessities for people going through incredibly challenging times.
