Welcome to the weekend, State College.
It’s time to take a breather, kick back your feet, and relax for a couple days.
But don’t relax for too long, because Valentine’s Day is coming on Sunday and there are plenty of events throughout the State College area that will help you celebrate love.
As always, we’re here with Thank God It’s Friday, a weekly guide to the events taking place in State College this weekend.
FRIDAY:
Celebrate V-Day.
For the second year in a row, the Bellefonte Art Museum is holding a Valentine Bash. The night will feature plenty of music, refreshments, art, and more.
A jazz trio of Flora Eyster, Steve Mitchell, and Bill Stetz will provide the music. Photographer Chuck Fong will be on site to take your portrait and print it out for you to take home. There will be art and jewelry exhibits and sales, where you can perhaps find a gift for that special someone. And of course, you can enjoy a glass of wine and dance the night away.
A $10 cover includes all of the above for the bash, which runs from 7 to 10 p.m. museum-wide.
The 1980s are back.
At least for a few days they are.
The Wedding Singer debuted at the State Theatre yesterday, performed by State College Community Theatre. The show continues this weekend, with an 8 p.m. show on Friday night, 2 and 3 p.m. shows on Saturday, and a final matinee at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
‘The Wedding Singer takes us back to a time when hair was big, greed was good, collars were up, and a wedding singer might just be the coolest guy in the room,’ SCCT says. ‘Based on the hit Adam Sandler movie, The Wedding Singer’s sparkling new score does for the ’80s what Hairspray did for the ’60s. Just say yes to the most romantic musical in 20 years.’

You’re in Hockey Valley.
So you should go to a hockey game while the season is still around.
The Penn State women’s hockey team is playing its last two home games of the season and celebrating Senior Weekend. Lindenwood’s squad is coming to town for a two-game series with games at 7 p.m. tonight and 2 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.
The Nittany Lions are 9-16-5 on the season, with a 5-6-5 conference record. Lindenwood holds a 7-19-4 record with a 4-8-4 clip in the College Hockey America standings.
Saturday is a Family 4 Pack game, meaning that you can get four tickets, four hot dogs, and four soft drinks for just $30. Click here for information on how to buy tickets to see the women’s hockey team in action for the last time this season.

Chocolate and wine.
Few things go together quite as well as chocolate and wine.
The Mt. Nittany Vineyard and Winery, of course, knows this.
The local winery will hold a wine and chocolate pairing event for Valentine’s Day on Saturday and Sunday. The event costs $7.50 per person and will bring together the best local wine and local chocolate from the Boalsburg Chocolate Company.

The central Pennsylvania professional chamber orchestra will put on a show titled ‘Music for the Heart’ on Sunday for the holiday.
That title is both figurative and literal, as the concert will warm your heart on a day that celebrates love, but will also help benefit the American Heart Association, which has partnered with the orchestra for the concert.

Adult tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door. a Portion of all sales will be donated to the American Heart Association and attendees are encouraged to wear red to the concert.
