The 28th annual Last Cruise event is underway on South Allen Street, and the sun is reflecting off of some pristine cars and motorcycles.

Exhibitors are showing off popular models of about 53 cars and 7 motorcycles from all eras like Mustangs and Corvettes, as well as rarities like a 1934 Cadillac LaSalle. An informational sign in front of the LaSalle states that the car was a popular ride among gangsters like John Dillinger and Al Capone, and the car is one of only 910 models made.

Spectators who attend the Best of the Best event, which goes until 4 p.m. and benefits programs for the Cente County Youth Services Bureau, can vote for their favorite automobile for a dollar at a tent located outside of the State College Municipal Building. The winner will be announced during an awards presentation shortly after the end of the event.

Oldies rock band Your Dad’s Friends are providing some musical entertainment courtesy of the 1950s and 60s, playing classics like “Blue Suede Shoes” and “Hey Baby” (the 1962 song by Bruce Channel that Penn State fans sing at Beaver Stadium).

“Remember about 30 or 40 years ago when we use to use that thing called the Post Office?” guitarist/vocalist Rick Herbster joked before the band ripped into the 1967 classic “The Letter” by the Box Tops.

And if you want to go cruising around State College, be sure to head toward College Avenue around 4:30 p.m. when the cruse portion of the event begins. It goes until 6 p.m.

If you can’t make it downtown before the event ends, have no fear. Check out the photo gallery below.
