A year of fundraising efforts culminated in today’s THON 2015 total reveal, announcing a monumental amount as the placards raised to show a whopping $13,026,653.23 for the kids.
708 dancers stood for 46 hours in the effort to end pediatric cancer while supporting Four Diamonds Fund families at the Hershey Medical Center.
This marks the first time in a decade that THON’s total decreased from the previous year, falling just shy of 2014’s total of $13,343,517.33.
From band performances and a pep rally, to dancer mail and the always emotional family hour, dancers were kept energized for just shy of two entire days before finally taking a seat ahead of the total reveal.
THON, short for the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, was founded in 1973 and raised just over $2,000 for the Butler County Association for Retarded Children. It moved around campus from the HUB Ballroom to White Building and Rec Hall before settling in its current home at the Bryce Jordan Center.
The effort to top this year’s total and further contribute to the fight against pediatric cancer ahead of THON 2016 starts today.
