About 6,300 Allegheny Power customers in Centre County were enduring power outages as of 1 p.m. Saturday, according to the utility company’s website. It said nearly 6,000 of them are in the immediate State College area.

The company is projecting that all its Centre County customers will have service restored by 8 p.m. Saturday. It noted wire and other equipment problems in the State College area.

Among the power issues, a number of traffic signals were knocked out — including those on North Atherton Street between Park Avenue and Vairo Boulevard. Those signals remained offline shortly after 1 p.m.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service has announced a high-wind warning that’s in effect until 9 p.m. The weather appears to be a key cause behind the outages.
