Trace McSorley’s career-high 376 passing yards and four touchdowns against Michigan State propelled him to Rose Bowl Big Ten Player of the Week honors announced Monday.

The redshirt sophmore signal-caller tossed 21 touchdowns to just five interceptions during his first regular season at the helm of Penn State’s offense. He’s now the program’s all-time record holder for total offensive yards in a single season with 3,348 through 12 games. McSorley also has 372 rushing yards and six more touchdowns on the ground.

The Ashburn, Va., native has taken Joe Moorhead’s uptempo attack to heart, operating Penn State’s offense with supreme comfort. When the Spartans — like so many defenses have this season — made stopping Saquon Barkley priority No. 1, McSorley gouged their secondary. He finished with the most passing yards by a Nittany Lion quarterback since Christian Hackenberg’s school-record 454 against UCF in the 2014 season opener.

McSorley is the third Nittany Lion to earn Rose Bowl Big Ten Player of the Week accolades this season, joining Barkley and Grant Haley.
