The elite U.S. Navy Band Commodores jazz ensemble will perform on Monday at State College Area High School’s new auditorium
Scheduled for 7:30 p.m., the concert is part of a 2019 tour taking the ensemble to 20 cities in seven states. Admission is free, but tickets are required and can be obtained online.
The Washington, D.C.-based U.S. Navy Band is the Navy’s flagship musical organization, with the jazz ensemble one of the its six performing ensembles.
“Jazz is America’s music and the Commodores, the Navy’s premier jazz ensemble, have been performing the very best of big band jazz for the Navy and the nation for almost 50 years,” a Navy Band press release said. “They have appeared on TV shows, played nearly all the major jazz festivals and toured across the United States and abroad. This vibrant, dynamic group is constantly striving for musical excellence and the pursuit of new and exciting ways to communicate with their audiences.”
This year, State College Area School District was named one of the National Association of Music Merchants Best Communities for Music Education for the sixth year in a row and the 15th time overall.
