Penn State students and others who want to attend a Tuesday rally headlined by Vice President Joe Biden will need to obtain free tickets in advance.
The organizing rally, meant to help drum up young voters’ enthusiasm before the Nov. 2 general elections, will begin at 1:30 p.m. in Alumni Hall in the HUB-Robeson Center, on the University Park campus, organizers announced.
Doors will open at noon, and a pre-program will begin at 1:20 p.m., according to a weekend announcement from the Centre County Democrats.
The event is dubbed ‘Moving America Forward’ and is sponsored by the Penn State College Democrats.
A similar event, to be attended by President Barack Obama, will be held Tuesday at the University of Wisconsin. The Wisconsin and Penn State rallies will be held in conjunction with each other, according to formal announcements.
While the gathering at University Park will be free and open to the public, ‘students will have priority for attendance,’ according to a news release issued Saturday by Penn State. Students — and students only — can pick up free tickets between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday and between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesday at the HUB-Robeson Center information desk.
Students will be required to show their IDs at the information desk, and only one ticket per ID will be distributed there, according to the release.
Free tickets for the general public will be distributed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday at the county Democratic headquarters, 224 S. Allen St., State College. Students may pick up tickets there, too.
Visitors to the rally have been asked not to bring any backpacks or bags to the event. A bag check will be available in room 110 at the HUB, Penn State reported, and organizers are encouraging the use of public transportation. Parking will be limited, according to the county Democratic announcement.
