The Joepa-Calypse is coming!
Pamela Monk, the writer and narrator of JoePa-Calypto along with the Forbidden Valley Players deliver knockout comical and musical performances in the ninth annual satirical play, Forbidden Valley: Joepa-Calypto.
The ancient Mayan calendar has predicted Dec. 21, 2012 will be the end of the world. However, here in State College, the date will signify an even greater ordeal — the retirement of football coach Joe Paterno, according to the performance.
Through satirical songs and whacky coincidences, Monk tells the audience Paterno shares his birthday with the end of the world. The Mayans were not predicting the end of the world, they were predicting Paterno’s retirement, she claims.
“Mayans = lions,” chanted Monk as she revealed her big secret: The Mayans must have bled blue and white.
The performance was about more than strange Joe-Pa coincidences; it was a culmination of many local and national happenings from 2009.
The Forbidden Valley Players sang about the swine flu, celebrity deaths, our falling economy, the State College crow infestation, Penn State’s party reputation, and even the Yankees winning the World Series.
