It’s not too late. There’s still time for you to make some dreams come true. Tuesday morning, volunteers will roll up their sleeves and go to work building a playground at Orchard Park. The plans for this playground are one-of-a-kind because they were concocted by kids from our area.

There’s only one snag — more adults are needed to make this dream a reality.

Earlier this year, children were asked to design their dream playground as part of a program sponsored by a non-profit group called KaBOOM! The organization helps communities build playgrounds all across the country. At least 175 volunteers are needed to put together the project on June 25. Currently, only 110 people have answered the call.

“We have enough volunteers to do the bare minimum,” says Courtney Hayden, who is heading up the project for the borough. “We would like Orchard Park to be the best place to play in State College borough. We need volunteers to do this successfully.”

The borough says the playground will benefit at least 1,500 children. Hayden is optimistic that more people will register to volunteer by Tuesday.

“If employers are able to let their employees leave work, we can really make this a successful project,” said Hayden. “This day is not just about building a park, it’s about interacting with the kids in our community.”

The playground build takes place on Tuesday, June 25 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Orchard Park—1060 Bayberry Drive, State College, PA. To volunteer, please contact Courtney Hayden at (814) 278-4723 or click HERE  to register online.
