Some houses in Ferguson Township are going to be affected by scheduled power outages on Aug. 19.
West Penn Power announced that the two power interruptions will occur sometime between 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
The interruptions should last 10 to 30 minutes, but there always a chance they could last longer than anticipated, said Chris Eck of FirstEnergy Corporation.
“The plan is to switch the customers around, meaning that we’ll change the source of power so that they’ll only be out for a short time,” Eck said.
The reason for the outages is that West Penn is repairing power lines, or transmission lines, in the Port Matilda, Julian, and Warrior areas.
“These are system upgrades for the transmission and subtransmission system,” Eck said. “These are the sorts of upgrades that improve service reliability.”
In the state-wide upgrades, over 2,700 customers are going to be affected in Port Matilda Borough, Worth, Taylor, Huston, Halfmoon and Rush Townships. Only part of Ferguson Township will be affected.
All homes that are going to experience outages should have been sent a phone message, said Eck.
If any West Penn customers have questions about the interruptions they should call the customer service hotline at 1-800-686-0021.
