Will Martin, a Penn State undergraduate majoring in communications sciences and disorders, has been named overall chairman for THON 2013.

The announcement was made via social media early Thursday, as Onward State reported. Martin will succeed Elaine Tanella in leading THON, known more formally as the Penn State Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon.

Martin has served on THON’s operations committee the past several years, according to Onward State. The website profiled Martin earlier this year.

Billed as the largest student-run philanthropy in the world, THON is also one of the biggest student groups at Penn State. Participants raise money year-round for The Four Diamonds Fund, which supports pediatric-cancer research and treatment.

Their efforts culminate each February in a 46-hour, no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon at the Bryce Jordan Center. THON 2012 raised a record $10.686 million.
