Ahead of the expected increase traffic that comes with the Thanksgiving holiday, Centre County law enforcement agencies are partnering with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation for a seat belt enforcement campaign.
State College, Ferguson Township, Patton Township and Spring Township police departments and Pennsylvania State Police at Rockview kicked off the statewide Click It or Ticket initiative on Monday morning at Pizza Hut on South Atherton Street.
During the seat belt enforcement mobilization, which began Monday and continues through Dec. 3, Pizza Hut employees will give out seat belt safety information for adults and children.
‘The information given is vital for motorists and passengers year-round, and during increased travel periods such as the Thanksgiving holiday, Black Friday, and deer season,’ according to PennDOT.
Centre County police departments are among 250 law enforcement agencies in Pennsylvania that will take part in the campaign to increase seat belt use and reduce injuries and fatalities.
According to PennDOT data, 410 of the 1,188 people who were killed in crashes statewide in 2016 were not wearing seat belts.
Pizza Hut locations in PennDOT district 2 include State College, Bellefonte, Philipsburg, Brookville, Clarion, Clearfield, DuBois, Grove City, Mill Hall and St. Marys.
