Penn State men’s basketball has updated its online coaching staff to reflect several changes this offseason.
After losing Joe Crispin to the head coaching role at Air Force and Jamal Brunt to an associate head coach position at Syracuse, the Nittany Lions restructured the staff with two additions and three title changes
The headline addition is Dwayne Stephens, who joins as an assistant coach after most recently serving as head coach at Western Michigan. Before that, Stephens spent 20 seasons as an assistant at his alma mater, Michigan State.
Additionally, Brent Scott has been promoted to associate head coach after three seasons as an assistant under head coach Mike Rhoades. Scott previously worked with Rhoades at Rice and VCU, and he also has experience on staff at LSU and TCU. Jake Szczecina, another coach who followed Rhoades from VCU, has been promoted to director of operations after three seasons at the team’s video coordinator.
Replacing Szczecina as video coordinator is new hire Sam Little, who previously worked with Stephens at Western Michigan. Little will also serve as a player development coach.
Lastly, Patrick Dorney has been elevated to chief of staff after three seasons as the director of operations for the team. He was Rhoades’ college teammate at Lebanon Valley College from 1989-1993 and had 11 years of high school coaching experience before joining the staff.
