Former Penn State DE Micah Parsons Requests Trade From Dallas Cowboys

A star player no longer wants to wear the star on his helmet.

After four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, former Penn State defensive end Micah Parsons announced on social media he’s officially requested a trade, citing a lack of communication from the organization’s leadership.

In his post, released Friday afternoon, Parsons said the Cowboys refused to discuss a contract extension following his third season in the league, which he acknowledged was “early.” A year later, though, Parsons said the team still hasn’t reached out to his agent, David Mulugheta. Parsons noted only one conversation with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, which he described as informal and not a serious negotiation.

Parsons expressed his willingness to take a pay cut to secure an earlier deal, emphasizing his lifelong fandom for the Cowboys and his desire to restore Dallas as “America’s Team.” However, he insisted on having his agent present for any formal discussions.

Jones recently made questionable comments about Parsons in a press conference, saying “Just because we sign (Parsons) doesn’t mean we’re gonna have him. He was hurt six games last year.” In reality, Parsons only missed four games. Former NFL defensive end JJ Watt replied on X criticizing Jones, which Parsons then reposted.

With the Cowboys exercising the fifth-year option on his rookie contract, Parsons is signed for the 2025-26 season at a base salary of approximately $24 million. However, his future with Dallas appears uncertain.

The overwhelming sentiment seems to be on Parsons’ side. Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown and safety Juanyeh Thomas changed their X profile pictures to Parsons in solidarity.

Parsons will certainly attract heavy attention from other NFL teams. Through four seasons, he’s amassed 256 tackles, 52.5 sacks and 9 forced fumbles across 63 games, earning Defensive Rookie of the Year honors in 2021 and Pro Bowl status all four years.
