Penn State Defensive End Max Granville Out For Season

A key Penn State defensive end is dealing with another long-term injury, according to head coach Matt Campbell.

Redshirt sophomore Max Granville is out for the remainder of the season, Campbell confirmed during his press conference on Saturday after Penn State’s win over Temple in Philadelphia. Granville was injured during practice but traveled with the team to its first road game and was seen in sweats pregame.

“Obviously, a really tough blow for a football team, and really most importantly, a really tough blow for Max,” Campbell said. “The thing I love about Max is he’s kind of been a pillar of glue for the unity of our football team over the last nine months. Who he is, what his character is, and I think that’s why we’re all really convinced that he’ll come back better than ever from his injury. But it’s a tough loss for us. Was a tough day for us, but Max and his family are certainly in our thoughts and prayers.”

The Sugar Land, Texas, native played 22 snaps in the season-opener against Marshall, recording two pressures and a pass breakup. He was poised to be a major contributor this season on Penn State’s two-deep.

Granville previously missed the entire 2025 campaign with an injury sustained over the summer, burning his redshirt. As a freshman in 2024, he appeared in seven games, including one tackle in a win over Maryland.

Despite earning praise throughout the offseason, Granville will have to wait until at least 2027 to see the field again for the Nittany Lions.
