After previously committing to Penn State’s 2023 recruiting class in April, four-star quarterback prospect Marcus Stokes announced on Thursday that he will instead play college ball at Florida.
Stokes, who attends Nease High School in Ponte Verde Beach, Florida, flipped to the the Gators after attending a Florida minicamp in June.
“I would like to thank Penn State for supporting me, loving me, and showing the same to my family,” Stokes wrote on Twitter. ”This decision was not the easiest to make.”
Ranked as 247Sports’ No. 10 overall quarterback, Stokes was the only signal-caller in the Nittany Lions’ Class of 2023 to date. The youngest members of Penn State’s quarterback room come from last year’s recruiting class: Drew Allar and Beau Pribula.
Stokes’ departure comes less than a month after three-star offensive lineman Joshua Miller flipped to Georgia. Four-star athlete Neeo Avery also reopened his recruitment in March.
Despite the recruiting loss, Penn State holds the nation’s fifth-ranked Class of 2023. The Nittany Lions are second in the Big Ten, behind No. 2 overall Ohio State.
