Penn State football beat out multiple local schools for a commitment from The Lone Star State on Wednesday night.

The Nittany Lions added a pledge from three-star cornerback Dhillon McGee, beating out regional finalists Texas and SMU. He announced the decision while live on Instagram, including a fakeout with a Longhorns hat.

McGee ranks as the No. 67 Texas recruit, No. 47 cornerback and No. 498 overall player in the 2027 class per the 247Sports composite, but his impressive offer list implies higher upside. In addition to his finalists, McGee was offered by Michigan, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, USC, Texas Tech and others.

Standing at 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds, McGee brings size, length and verified track speed with a 10.50-second personal best in the 100-meter dash.

McGee spent the previous three seasons at Red Oak High School, where he’s credited with 45 tackles and 23 pass breakups since joining varsity as a sophomore. He recently announced plans to transfer for his senior year to DeSoto High School, which ranked as the No. 23 team in the country by MaxPreps last season with a 13-3 record.

Following the announcement, Penn State is up to 22 commitments in the class, which pushes the group back into the top 10 nationally, per 247Sports, and No. 2 in the Big Ten. Following two recent cornerback flips from Zachary Gleason and Semajay Robinson, the Nittany Lions were in need at the position.
