Penn State suffered a setback on the recruiting trail.
The Nittany Lions on Monday morning lost a commitment from four-star wide receiver Jamir Dean, one of the top players in their class, who instead flipped to Georgia. Dean picked up an offer from Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs less than a week after committing to Penn State, then took official visits to both campuses before settling on the decision.
Dean is ranked as the No. 12 Tennessee native, No. 36 wide receiver and No. 257 overall prospect in the cycle, per the 247Sports composite rankings. The Alcoa High School product is listed at 6-foot-1.5 and 175 pounds.
Nittany Lion wide receivers coach Kashif Moore had been closing in on an impressive first class in Happy Valley, but that group has taken an unexpected hit after the late surge from Georgia. Still, Penn State holds a commitment from four-star receiver Landon Blum and is in the mix for two more four-stars in Khalil Taylor and Deshawn Hall.
The Nittany Lions are back down to 20 commitments in the class following their third player lost to a flip. The group sat at No. 16 nationally and No. 7 in the Big Ten prior to the move, per the 247Sports composite rankings, and will likely slide down a few spots.
