Penn State just bounced back in the recruiting realm.
The Nittany Lions on Sunday morning received a commitment from four-star edge rusher Elijah Guertin, per On3’s Ryan Snyder, who becomes one of the top players in the team”s 2027 class. The news comes less than a week after Penn State weathered its first two decommitments of the cycle from cornerbacks Semajay Robinson and Zachary Gleason.
Guertin is ranked as the No. 1 Rhode Island native, No. 27 edge rusher and No. 302 overall prospect in the cycle, per the 247Sports composite rankings. He’s also the highest-ranked Rhode Island recruit since 2019, per the composite rankings. He’s listed at 6-foot-5 and 255 pounds heading into his senior season at Bishop Hendricken High School in Warwick.
He was primarily recruited by new Nittany Lion edge rushers coach Christian Smith and took an official visit to campus this weekend before committing. He had an impressive offer list featuring Michigan, Tennessee, Florida, Illinois, Nebraska and others.
With the decision, Penn State is back up to 21 total commitments in the class, which sits at No. 7 overall and No. 2 in the Big Ten, per 247Sports.
