Penn State had the weekend off, but is nonetheless staying put among the nation’s top ranked teams. For a second consecutive week, the Nittany Lions are ranked No. 3 in the AP Top 25 poll, which was released on Sunday.
There appeared to be a chance James Franklin’s program could move up to No. 2 in the poll after formerly No. 1-ranked Texas fell to Georgia on Saturday. But alas, Penn State will head to Wisconsin on Oct. 26 with a top-three ranking, as the Bulldogs jumped from No. 5 to No. 2 after knocking off the Longhorns, who fell to fifth.
The Nittany Lions are one of five Big Ten teams included in this week’s ranking. Oregon moved up to No. 1, Ohio State stayed put at No. 4, undefeated Indiana moved up three spots to No. 13 and Illinois moved up two spots to No. 20 after defeating Michigan, which fell out of the poll and did not receive any votes after its third loss of the year.
The Badgers, despite coming off a 23-3 victory at Northwestern, did not receive any votes. Wisconsin will enter its matchup with the Nittany Lions on a three-game win streak, a stretch in which Luke Fickell’s defense has allowed just 16 points total.
