While Devonte Ross didn’t have the season most expected during his lone year at Penn State, he’s still in the mix for an NFL contract.
Following a breakout year at Troy in 2024 (76 receptions, 1,043 yards, 11 touchdowns), Ross entered the transfer portal and quickly gained attention from the Nittany Lions’ coaching staff.
After transferring in the winter, an injury hampered Ross at the beginning of the season, while he split reps at slot receiver with Liam Clifford. As Ross returned to full strength, his production also ticked upward, ending the season with 36 receptions for 501 yards and five touchdowns.
Highlights of Ross’ one season wearing blue and white include a two-touchdown performance against Oregon, a 117-yard day against Northwestern and a season-best eight receptions in the Pinstripe Bowl against Clemson.
Though he’s smaller in stature, which creates a disadvantage in contested catches and run blocking, Ross’ speed and route-running allow him to create separation. He showcased that at Penn State’s Pro Day with testing and route-running.
“It would mean everything (to be drafted),” Ross said. “I got nieces and nephews that I know look up to me, so it’ll be cool for me to be able to so they won’t have to look outside their household for a role model. So that’s something I take pride in, and that’s something that I want to be able to do.”
