Former Penn State quarterback Trace McSorley has reportedly found a new home in the NFL. McSorley, one of the most-accomplished signal callers in program history, is “working toward” signing a deal with the Washington Commanders, per Grant Paulsen of 106.7 The Fan.
With Commanders quarterback Sam Hartman injured, Paulen reported, McSorley could see playing time in the team’s preseason game against the Miami Dolphins on Saturday. It’s there that McSorley could meet another former Nittany Lion — rookie defensive end Chop Robinson.
The Commanders would mark McSorley’s sixth team since he was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. McSorley has also served stints with the Arizona Cardinals, New England Patriots, Chicago Bears and was most recently a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ practice squad.
McSorley grew up in Ashburn, Virginia, a suburb of Washington D.C. which is just over an hour from Commanders Field.
Over his five-year NFL career, McSorley has thrown for 502 yards and one touchdown in nine total games.
McSorley holds 11 Penn State records, including wins, completions, passing yards and passing touchdowns. McSorley was instrumental in the team’s run and win of the 2016 Big Ten Championship, a game in which he threw for 384 yards and four touchdowns in a 38-31 win over Wisconsin.
