Penn State has added a local prospect to its 2026 recruiting class.
Three-star running back D’Antae Sheffey has committed to the Nittany Lions, he announced on social media Wednesday night. He’s a current senior at State College Area High School, where he totaled 234 carries for 1,613 yards and 24 touchdowns this past season, all career bests.
Sheffey is listed at 5-foot-11, 180 pounds and was once committed to Syracuse but backed off his pledge one day after the Orange lost to Notre Dame in embarrassing fashion, 70-7, to drop to 3-8 on the year — they finished 3-9. Sheffey received interest from several other power conference schools, including Pitt, Wisconsin and Rutgers. He also scheduled an upcoming visit to Missouri, which extended a late offer, but it’s unclear whether he still intends to visit.
Sheffey is ranked as a three-star recruit, the No. 35 player in Pennsylvania, No. 74 running back and No. 1,228 overall prospect in the class. He becomes the 13th member of Penn State’s 2026 haul, which now ranks No. 85 nationally per the 247Sports composite.
Factoring in the Nittany Lions’ 24 transfer commitments, the total incoming contingent ranks No. 40 in the country and No. 10 out of 18 Big Ten squads.
