For the second time in as many days, Penn State announced a major partnership with a Pennsylvania-based company.
The university on Wednesday announced a three-year deal with travel plaza and convenience store chain Onvo, which is now the “official convenience store of Penn State Athletics.” Onvo, formerly known as Liberty Travel Plazas, is headquartered in Scranton and has 42 locations across the Keystone State and New York, with the closest to State College being located in Mifflin and Clinton counties.
One day prior, the Nittany Lions announced a multi-year partnership with grocery chain Giant. Both deals were arranged by Playfly Sports.
“Our growing partnership with Onvo reflects the strength of the relationships we’ve built and our shared commitment to creating meaningful connections with Penn State fans,” Vice President of Corporate Partnerships at Penn State Sports Enterprises Daniel Solomon said. “Expanding our collaboration is a testament to the value and visibility we strive to deliver for our partners and we’re excited about the opportunities ahead. Onvo’s creative, energetic brand is a natural fit for our passionate fanbase and we’re looking forward to bringing fresh, engaging experiences to life together while continuing to grow this category.”
The company will receive branding throughout Beaver Stadium and has promotional ownership over field goals and extra points scored in the home of Nittany Lion football. The branding extends beyond the gridiron, as the women’s volleyball Breast Cancer Game and wrestling’s BJC Dual will also be branded by Onvo.
Incentives for fans include 20 cents off a gallon of gas the day after a Penn State football win, fan experiences at the Beaver Stadium Block Party prior to home games and exclusive gameday buttons available for pickup at certain locations. In addition to providing funding for the university, the partnership will also create NIL opportunities for student-athletes.
Financial terms of the deal, which began on July 1, were not disclosed.
“Penn State Athletics has been a great partner to us over the past two years, and we’re excited to expand our relationship with this new designation,” Onvo Vice President of Marketing Harman Aulakh said. “As a family-owned business that was founded here in Pennsylvania, expanding our partnership with Penn State is a great way to have some fun with a brand that deeply resonates with our guests and allows us to develop innovative promotions that will get more fans into our stores.”
