Penn State Football Adds Four-Star Offensive Lineman to Class of 2025

Penn State football added its first verbal commitment to its 2025 class on Monday morning as four-star offensive tackle Jaelyne Matthews announced his commitment on Instagram.

Matthews, of Toms Rivers North High School in New Jersey, recently visited Penn State this past weekend as part of the program’s final Junior Day event aimed at courting potential future commitments. As Matthews proved on Monday, sometimes it doesn’t take long for that good impression to sink in. Penn State landed Matthews over the likes of Georgia, Ohio State and Miami among others.

Hitting the scales at 6-foot-5 and 290 pounds, Matthews is rated as New Jersey’s top recruit, the fifth-best offensive tackle in his class and the No. 60 player at any position on the nation for the class of 2025, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. Matthews’ commitment is the third-straight time a Penn State recruiting class has begun with a meaningful offensive line prospect, following now-freshman Alex Birchmeier’s commitment to start the 2023 cycle and Cooper Cousins’ commitment to kick off the upcoming 2024 class.

Penn State’s quality recruiting along the offensive front has not gone unrewarded on the field either. While all three prospects have yet to make an impact on campus just yet, the Nittany Lions’ overall quality along the offensive line has improved drastically the past 24 months, perhaps then no surprise that so too has the quality of play, and Penn State’s ability to run the ball.
