Penn State football’s 2024 recruiting class earned its second commitment of the day on Sunday as three-star edge rusher Xavier Gilliam announced his pledge to the Nittany Lions. Gililam’s commitment came just hours after three-star Class of 2024 offensive lineman Deryc Plazz also verbally committed to Penn State.
The 6-foot-3, 260-pound Gilliam hails from Columbia, Maryland, where he is the state’s No. 18-ranked player at his position and ranks as the No. 43-best edge rusher nationally, according to 247Sports. He becomes the 16th player to commit to Penn State’s Class of 2024 and the first edge rusher of the group. The class ranks No. 7 nationally, also per 247Sports.
Gilliam, who attends Wilde Lake High School, received offers from Duke, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Indiana, Maryland, Pitt and Texas A&M, among others, but chose the Nittany Lions after his official visit on Friday. For a closer look at Gilliam’s play, check out his Hudl tape here.
