Both Penn State lacrosse teams are going dancing.
The NCAA on Sunday night revealed the tournament brackets for both the men’s and women’s side. The men had already clinched a berth after winning the Big Ten tournament, while the women were selected for an at-large bid.
Head coach Jeff Tambroni and Co. were selected as the No. 8 overall seed in the 18-team field, pitting them against Army West Point in the round of 16. The game will commence at 2:30 p.m. EDT on Saturday, with the Nittany Lions hosting at Panzer Stadium. With a win, Penn State would advance to play either No. 1-seed Princeton or at-large bids Marist or Stonybrook in the quarterfinals.
The Nittany Lions finished the regular season 7-5 before defeating Maryland and Johns Hopkins to win the Big Ten tournament. They’ll appear in the NCAA tournament for the ninth time in program history, eyeing the program’s fourth Final Four bid and first national championship appearance.
Meanwhile, Kayla Treanor’s squad will face off against Stanford in the opening round of the tournament, which will take place at 6 p.m. EDT on Friday in Ann Arbor, Michigan. With a win, Penn State would advance to play either No. 7-seed Michigan or Mercer, who battle earlier in the day at 3 p.m. That second-round matchup will also take place in Ann Arbor.
The Nittany Lions finished the year at 12-6, including a 4-4 record against a loaded Big Ten Conference that earned six total bids. Their opening opponent, the Cardinal, went 15-4 (8-2 ACC) and also earned an at-large entry into the bracket.
The women will make their 27th appearance in the dance in program history, with a chance to reach their 12th Final Four and claim their third national title.
