Penn State wrestling great and Centre County resident David Taylor fell just short of winning another world title over the weekend.
Wrestling for the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club, Taylor took silver at the World Wrestling Championship on Sunday in Oslo, Norway. He fell to Iran’s Hassan Yazdani 6-2 in the 86 kg finals.
Taylor and Yazdani previously faced off just a few months ago at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. There, Taylor used a miraculous last-minute takedown to seal a 4-3 win and claim gold for the U.S.
Taylor won a world title in 2018 with a win over none other than Yazdani, sparking a rivalry that still persists today.
In addition to his one world title and Olympic gold medal, Taylor is a three-time U.S. national champion, two-time NCAA title-winner and two-time Hodge Trophy winner.
Taylor graduated from Penn State in 2014. Since then, he moved to Centre County and now owns K2 Roots, a small business in downtown State College focused on cold-pressed juices. He also owns and operates M2 Training Center in Pleasant Gap.
