Carey Booth, a four-star power forward and the son of former Penn State men’s basketball great Calvin Booth, verbally committed to the Nittany Lions on Wednesday evening to give Penn State coach Micah Shrewsberry his third commitment to the 2023 class.
Booth is rated the No. 76 overall prospect by the 247 Network‘s composite rankings and the No. 90 prospect by the network itself. A product of Brewster Academy in New Hampshire, Booth is the state’s No. 4 rated prospect and the No. 17 overall power forward in the nation.
He hits the scales at 6-foot-9 and 190 pounds. Generally speaking Booth is seen as more of a project but scouts hail his basketball IQ and overall size.
Booth joins future Nittany Lions Logan Imes and Shrewsberry’s son Braeden Shrewsberry as members of Penn State’s 2023 class and is the highest rated prospect of the three.
The younger Booth joins Penn State having received offers from the likes of California, Ohio State, Texas, Marquette and Arizona State, among others.
As for his father, the senior Booth currently works as the Denver Nuggets’ President of Basketball Operations. Booth played 13 seasons in the NBA after being drafted in the second round of the 1999 NBA Draft. While at Penn State, he was named the Big Ten’s Defensive Player of the Year his junior season.
