Penn State picked up its first quarterback for the 2023 recruiting class as four-star prospect Marcus Stokes announced his verbal commitment to James Franklin and his staff on Twitter late Friday afternoon.

He also had offers from schools including Indiana, Cincinnati, Utah and Ole Miss. He’s pegged as the No. 10 quarterback in the Class of 2023 by 247Sports and garnered a four-star rating in its composite system.

Stokes threw for more than 2,600 yards in his junior campaign at Nease, completing 60% of his passes and adding a team-high 496 rushing yards on the ground, per 247Sports.

The quarterback is listed at 6-foot-2, 185 pounds and also plays basketball at Nease.

Following the decommitment of four-star athlete Neeo Avery, Stokes is now the ninth player to verbally commit to Penn State’s 2023 class. Blue-chip five-star offensive lineman Alex Birchmeier and offensive tackle Jven Williams currently headline the crew.
