Penn State football continued its torrid pace on the recruiting trail on Tuesday, beating out Notre Dame for the verbal commitment from four-star running back Nicholas Singleton out of Governor Mifflin High School.

Singleton marks the sixth player to verbally commit to Penn State in the first six days of July.

According to the 247 Network, Singleton is rated the 43rd best prospect in the 2022 class and the third-best running back in the nation. He also comes in as the second-best prospect in the state by both the 247 Network and the site’s composite rankings which aggregate recruiting rankings among all the major recruiting and evaluation websites. The composite rankings have Singleton at No. 98 in the nation.

The Reading, Pa. native is Penn State’s highest-rated commitment in the 2022 class so far that is now 18 players deep. He joins rising receiver Kaden Saunders and quarterback Drew Allar as two of the higher profile names in Penn State’s 2022 haul.

Overall the Nittany Lions currently sit with the third-best recruiting class in the country and the second-best in the Big Ten.

Singleton is a significant victory for Penn State on the recruiting trail as it looks to continue to land the majority of the state’s top prospects in 2022. Singleton had long been a favorite to land at Penn State but Notre Dame – according to Lions247 – had made a significant push in its efforts to land one of the Keystone State’s top prospects.

All told James Franklin and his staff can lay claim to commitments from five of the top eight prospects in the state with No. 1 Enia White not yet committed and No. 5 Anthony Johnson headed to Rutgers. White, a 6-foot-5 edge rusher out of Philadelphia, appears slated to land in the SEC but the 247 Network has yet to post any favorite.

Penn State is among the favorites to land five-star defensive end Dani Dennis-Sutton, who is slated to announce his college decision on July 22.
