Penn State guard Sam Sessoms has entered the transfer portal according to a program source. ESPN’s Jeff Borzello was first to report the news.

According to sources, it was an amicable parting of ways for both Sessoms and the program as each look for a fresh starting heading into the summer on the court and in the locker room during an offseason that will see plenty of roster turnover yet again. Sessoms generally acted as Penn State’s primary ball handler in late game situations and was often the primary rim attacker in similar scenarios.

As Penn State welcomes five incoming freshmen including guards Kanye Clary and highly touted Jameel Brown, that role would likely continue to be diversified. The Nittany Lions could also welcome back senior guard Myles Dread in addition to standout Jalen Pickett – who announced his intentions to return following the Big Ten Tournament – and rising junior Dallion Johnson.

Sessoms leaves Penn State having averaged 11.6 points per contest along with 3.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists during this most recent season. He has one season of eligibility remaining. The Philadelphia native originally transferred to Penn State after two seasons at Binghamton where he averaged 17 and 19 points per game in his first two seasons, respectively.

Between graduation status and a previous transfer, Sessoms would likely need an NCAA waiver in order to be immediately eligible again.
