Penn State Reportedly Sued by Victim No. 1 from Jerry Sandusky Trial

According to the Associated Press (via Yahoo Sports), one of former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky’s victims is suing the University.

Known as Victim No.1, the person explained to the AP that the reasoning for the law suit is due to the lack of action taken by the school’s officials after complaints against Sandusky were filed.

Back in July, the AP also reported that the man claiming to be the victim the coach molested in the showers also planned to take legal action legal action against the University.

The alleged victim explained to the AP reporter that his reasoning for the suit was the school’s “egregious and reckless conduct.”

Victim No. 1 echoed similar reasoning to the same media outlet after making the same decision, explaining the University’s failure to act as the following in his suit:

A function of [Penn State’s] purposeful, deliberate and shameful subordination of the safety of children to its economic self-interests, and to its interest in maintaining and perpetuating its reputation.

The University publicly spoke regarding the most recent suit, with Penn State spokesman Dave La Torre telling the AP “The university takes these cases very seriously.”

Sandusky was found guilty for 45 of the 48 counts of sexual abuse he was tried for, with the decision being handed down back in June by Centre County Court. When the jury’s decision was announced that month, the University told Joe Drape of the New York Times:

“The university wants to provide a forum where the university can privately, expeditiously and fairly address the victims’ concerns and compensate them for claims relating to the university.”

 Sandusky is currently awaiting prison sentencing that will be determined no later than September 22.
