Now that winter has hit State College (was I the only one who hoped I could get through until spring without ever pulling out my heavy Penn State jacket or snow boots?), it is a perfect time to curl up with a good book or some writing projects and meet like-minded people to talk about them.
On February 13, the Nittany Valley Writers Network will host a topic near and dear to my heart: Using the Internet for Writing. The discussion will take place at 7 pm at Schlow Library.
At Barnes and Noble, a special performance will take place on Saturday, February 17. Poets and Artists with Heart and Soul will highlight the talents of children with Downs Syndrome. A storytime will kick off the day at 10:30, and the children will be reading their poetry.
If you liked the movie Pursuit of Happyness, read the book that spawned the film and discuss it at the bookstore on February 12 at 7 pm. On February 20, the eclectic book group will discuss The Sea by John Banville.
And although there is no public discussion of this book (not that I know of anyway), in honor of President’s Day, may I suggest Philip Klein’s biography of Pennsylvania’s only native son president, James Buchanan.
