Editor’s Note: This is the final story of a 19-part daily series that answered questions surrounding the 2010 Penn State football team. Friday, we asked: ‘What Should I Look for at the Blue-White Game?‘ Today, we ask: ‘Who’s Going to Win?

———————————-

There’s lots to be gained from the Blue-White Game, although it doesn’t always seem so. Here is who we predict will be the top five winners of Penn State’s annual football scrimmage, kicking off today at 2 p.m. in Beaver Stadium:

1. THE FANS. The game is free. So is parking. There’s an autograph session inside Beaver Stadium and literally a carnival outside of it. Kudos to the Penn State athletic department for creating a fun, free, family-oriented event that has drawn more than 71,000 fans each of the past three years.

2. MATT McGLOIN. The Penn State coaches already know what he can do. But a big game by the quarterback — which I think will happen — could get public opinion on his side all summer long in the Great Quarterback Derby of 2010.

3. MIKE McQUEARY. Penn State’s receivers coach is also the team’s recruiting coordinator. And the circus-like atmosphere today may help sway some fence-sitting recruits in the stadium on Saturday. The presence and fawning of the ESPN2 crew (Brent Musberger, Kirk Herbstreit and Matt Millen) might also do the same thing for the star recruits watching at home.

4. ALABAMA. Penn State surely won’t give away too many trade secrets to the defending national champs, who the Nittany Lions play on the road in the second game of the 2010 season. But the Tide will get a good look at the Lions’ quarterbacks, offensive tackles, tight ends and linebackers – all featuring new starters in 2010. And ‘Bama should get a few clues about what PSU does in specific situations, like in the red zone and on the goal line.

5. BLUE. I’m picking the dark-shirted Nittany Lions by nine points.
