The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch on Wednesday for a portion of central Pennsylvania, including Centre County.

The watch is in effect until 8 p.m. Wednesday. Scattered hail up to ping-pong-ball size, wind gusts up to 70 mph and a few tornados are possible in the watch area.

A tornado watch is issued when weather conditions could lead to the formation of severe storms or tornados, according to the NWS. A tornado warning would be issued if a tornado has been spotted or indicated by radar.

Heavy thunderstorms with the possibility of damaging winds are expected into Wednesday evening, according to AccuWeather.

A severe thunderstorm warning was in effect until 3:30 p.m. Wednesday for northern and eastern Centre County, including Bellefonte, Zion, Milesburg, Snow Shoe, Blanchard, Clarence,
Rebersburg, Moshannon, Monument, Black Moshannon State Park, Bald Eagle State Park and Howard.
