Hospitalizations

Mount Nittany Medical Center is treating 35 COVID-19 patients, three more than on Tuesday, with four in intensive care and four on ventilators.

The patients range in age from less than 42 to 95, according to Mount Nittany’s COVID-19 inpatient dashboard. Nine are fully vaccinated and 26 are not vaccinated.

Pennsylvania has 3,386 COVID-19 inpatients, 37 more than on Tuesday, with 756 in intensive care [-7] and 449 on ventilators [+29], according to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard. The statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations are the most since Jan. 29.

An estimated 91% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation that considers a case as recovered if it has not been reported as a death and it is more than 30 days past the date of the first positive test or onset of symptoms.

Prison cases

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Benner state prison has 77 active COVID-19 cases among inmates — unchanged from Tuesday and more than triple the second highest state correctional facility — and 28 among staff [+5], also the highest among any SCI.

Rockview state prison has two active inmate cases and five among staff [+1]. Both facilities are in Benner Township.

At Benner, 1,569 inmates are fully vaccinated, 14 are partially vaccinated and 198 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 279 are fully vaccinated and 349 are not vaccinated.

Transmission level

All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update on Tuesday.

Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.

Vaccinations

As of Wednesday morning, 86,334 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated [+80 since Tuesday] and 11,193 are partially covered [+191]. Third doses have been administered to 21,495 county residents [+578].

Among the county’s entire population, 68.2% have received at least one dose and 52.3% are fully vaccinated, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 74.5% have received at least one dose and 58.2% are fully vaccinated.

Statewide, 68.8% of adults and 58% of the total population are fully vaccinated. Pennsylvania is fifth in the nation for total doses administered, according the CDC.

On Tuesday, the CDC began to rectify its data to match Pennsylvania COVID-19 vaccine data, according to DOH, resulting in lower vaccination percentages on Wednesday than had been previously reported.
