Dollar General has opened its newest Centre County location, according to a press release from the company on Tuesday.
Located at 3283 W. College Ave. in Ferguson Township, the new State College-area store is open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day. It offers national and private brand products including food, cleaning supplies, paper products, over-the-counter medicines, hygiene products, baby items, Dollar General’s new line of home décor and expanded party preparation supplies.
“At Dollar General, we believe the addition of each new store provides positive economic growth for the communities we proudly serve, and the addition of our new State College store highlights our commitment to deliver a pleasant shopping experience that includes great prices on quality products in a convenient location,” Matthew Simonsen, the company’s senior vice president of real estate and store development, said in the release. “We look forward to welcoming customers to our new store and hope they will enjoy shopping at our new location.”
The store is expected to employ six to 10 people.
To commemorate the store opening, Dollar General plans to donate 100 new books to a nearby elementary school. In partnership with the Kellogg Company, Dollar General is planning to donate more than 60,000 books this fiscal year across the country to celebrate new store openings. Schools, nonprofit organizations and libraries within a 15-mile radius of the new store also are eligible to apply for Dollar General Literacy Foundation grants, a program that has awarded more than $219 million in grants since its inception in 1993.
The Ferguson Township store is the first business to open in Orchard Square, a new single-story, three-storefront commercial building between Sheetz and the Orchard View residential subdivision on a portion of former Harner Farm property.
It is the only Dollar General location in the State College area and the fifth in Centre County, joining stores in Bellefonte, Milesburg, Walker Township and Centre Hall.
