ORIGINAL STORY:

A State College restaurant is shutting down this month after 67 years in business.

Home D Pizzeria, 1820 S. Atherton St., will permanently close at 8 p.m. on June 27, according to a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page on Friday morning.

Home D’s sister location, Robin Hood Brewing Company in Bellefonte, will remain open “as business is going well.”

Home D had been trying to lease a portion of the South Atherton Street building while maintaining the restaurant in a downsized space for more than a year. But, according to the post, as a deal was finalized the new tenant’s “needs increased, and they ended up needing and leasing the entire building.”

The new tenant was not identified.

“We’d like to thank all of our current staff members who have been like family to us and our customers over the years,” the post said. “We couldn’t have asked for greater people to work with. After the last year and a half restaurants and their staff has just had, this makes the news even harder to announce.”

With the news, the restaurant’s Summer Bash on the Patio, with live music by Canary, at 6 p.m. on June 26 will serve as “a last hoorah,” for Home D’s nearly seven decades in businesss.

“We’re gonna miss having our last football game, and seeing the State College band late night after a game for our famous pizza specials, and we’re gonna miss seeing all of you!” the post said. “Thank you for helping us become part of such a strong community and helping us create some memories that will last forever.”

The location was formerly the Penn Hi-Boy Motel and Restaurant until 1985, when it became Home Delivery Pizza Pub. It was later renamed Home D.
