Wednesday marked the first time Gia Biacchi participated in the Children and Youth Day Sidewalk Sale, and the 8-year-old considered it a smashing success.

Since the All-American Rathskeller closed in January, the new operators of the basement bar at 108 S. Pugh St. have been busy getting it ready for its reopening under a new name. Now the public will get a look inside Doggie’s Rathskeller & Garden for the first time.

State College’s biggest summer event kicks off on Wednesday as the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts celebrates its 52nd year with a mix of traditional favorites and new events.

The 52nd Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts is one month away, and the festival continues an annual tradition with the release of this year’s collectible poster.

Thanks to the efforts of festival volunteers, staff and attendees, nearly two and half tons of organic waste and recyclable materials were collected during the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts in State College and the People’s Choice Festival in Boalsburg.

Schlow Centre Region Library will host its annual BookFest from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the BookFest tent in the library’s parking lot.

The rain had just begun to clear, the sun started to emerge, and Greg Glenn was back to work on Friday afternoon. For nearly 20 years, Glenn has been creating one of the most popular attractions at the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts: the annual sand sculpture in Sidney Friedman Park.
