When Penn State Alumni Association executive director Paul Clifford took the stage Saturday morning at the Bryce Jordan Center, his energizing remarks underscored just why 707 student dancers and thousands more volunteers and supporters were spending 46 hours on their feet this weekend.

Dancer Relations captains took the stage around 6:15 pm. on Friday at the Bryce Jordan Center for the first line dance of THON 2020.

The early hours were expectedly ebullient and energetic, with participants and children dancing and playing games. And there were some surprises, like a visit from a few Penn State basketball stars and a performance by pop singer Daya.

“Everybody is impacted by cancer, and I think that’s what THON’s about — being there fighting for the cause together.”

This weekend, students and spectators are again joining together for the signature event of the largest student-run philanthropy in the world. THON has helped 4,000 families, including current Penn State students Tucker Haas and Robbie Schweitzer in their own fight against cancer.

Those attending THON events this weekend at the Bryce Jordan Center who arrive by vehicle will most likely run into Erica Jones. She is a parking expert and is perhaps one of the first people THON goers and participants meet when they arrive, simply because of her position.

CATA once again will offer 24-hour Loop bus service for the duration of THON, which begins on Friday and continues through Sunday afternoon.
