Bonnie Lou Lewis, 58, formerly of Snow Shoe, passed away November 6, 2020 at her home in Beech Creek.

Born May 21, 1962 in Lock Haven, Bonnie was a daughter of Olive and Patrick Leigey of Rebersburg. Bonnie was often known as Mom, Grandma, Aunt Bonnie, whatever it may be that people knew, even if she wasn’t their Mom, she was much more to them than to call her by her first name.

In December 1989 she met her loving spouse, Harold Lewis. They wed on June 21, 1996. Bonnie and Harold were two peas in a pod from the beginning. Their love for each other was unexplainable.

Prior to her marriage to Harold, Bonnie had 3 children, Jim Hartman, Ashley Rae and Charles Hartman. Charles was just a baby when Bonnie met her love Harold.

Bonnie and Harold, later in life along their path of helping many loving friends, took care of Cody Baxter and raised him as their loving son. Cody was placed with Bonnie and Harold from birth. He knows them as Mom and Dad. Cody currently lived with Bonnie. Cody would explain Bonnie as the best Mom ever that would talk to anyone, even a stranger. Cody remembers many hunting trips and 4 wheeler rides.

Bonnie has many loving grandchildren and many more that claim her as “Gram”. Her first son Jim and his wife Katie have a loving, blended family of four daughters; Emily, Kayla, Martina and the most recent grandbaby, Ruby. Ruby is Jim’s twin and loves animals like her Mom and Grandmother.

Ashley first blessed her Mom with a granddaughter, Alexis Lou. Though Alexis wasn’t Bonnie’s first grandchild, they had a bond from the start that nobody can begin to explain. Alexis spent many hours as a baby, toddler and, even later with Gram, who was her babysitter. Alexis shares her Gram’s middle name and many more passions, like the love of hunting, goats, cats, dogs, pj pants and, their sometimes daily trips to the dollar store. When she found out her Gram passed away, Alexis wrote on a picture of her Gram, “I am gonna miss you, and I know you’re in a better place but too soon. I wanted you to see me accomplish those goals you told me about, but you can watch me from a different view. I love you”. Ashley then had a daughter Charleigh, that we swear has her Gram’s “I need to keep everything tendencies”. Ashley and her husband David lived in Ohio for Charleigh’s birth, then move back to Pennsylvania. They had their son Dakota. They always called her “Grandma with the chickens”. Though times had changed, they all loved their grandmother so much.

Charles has seven children, Alabama, Nichelle, Charles Jr., Brayden, Neaveh, and Bentley.

Bonnie was dedicated to her husband, children and grandbabies. She spent a lot of time making sure others were taken care of even if it meant she went without. She has a passion for her “soaps” and The Voice. Bonnie loved filling the house with things, things she thought they needed. It wasn’t rare for Bonnie to bring home a random animal, rather it be a cat, dog, chickens, goats and, once even a horse and raccoon. Bonnie would always tell you “I love you” at the end of every conversation. She filled her life by loving others. Just to mention a few that were close and dear to her heart; Kayla Leigey. Kayla would drop anything to go bathe Bonnie and brush her hair. Whatever it may be, Kayla was there, as well as her sister, Shanly and their mother, Sharon. There are many, many more but those were always around and closest to Bonnie in her final days.

Bonnie, for the little size that she was….sure was a tuff one. She was always in good spirits. She could work on a vehicle, shoot a gun, anything…you name it she would do it or at least try.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her loving parents Olive and Patrick Leigey; one brother, Dan Leigey; two sisters, Anna and Patty and her first husband, Bill. She is survived by her loving husband, Harold Lewis; her children, Jim Hartman, Ashley Rae, Charles Hartman and Cody Baxter; her brothers, Dave Leigey, Fess Leigey, and sisters, Ruth Berkey, Connie Leigey and Janet Leigey. Also surviving are grandchildren, Emily, Kayla, Marti, Ruby, Alexis, Lucas, Charleigh, Dakota, Alabama, Nichelle, Charles, Jr., Brayden, Nevaeh, Bentley and many loving nieces and nephews who would call her “Mom” most often.

Contributions in memory of Bonnie may be given to Steven R. Neff Funeral Home, POB 437, Millheim PA 16854.
