Darlene June Smith, 74, of Milesburg, passed away on Monday, August 27, 2026, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. Born on October 24, 1951, in Bellefonte, she was the daughter of the late Lester H. and Fyetta (Spicer) Parkes. On November 4, 1972, she married her beloved husband, Sherwood D. Smith, who survives at home after sharing 53 years of marriage together.
Darlene was a 1969 graduate of Bald Eagle Area High School. She devoted her life to taking care of her home and raising her family.
In addition to her husband, Sherwood, she is survived by their three children, Timothy Smith (Tiffany) of Bellefonte, Christina Stine of Milesburg, and Thomas Smith (Brittany) of Unionville, and six grandchildren: Amanda, Austin, Hunter, Isabella, Lily, and Aryella. Also surviving is a sister, Carol Snyder, of Altoona.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by a grandson, Nathan Stine, and a brother, Lester Parkes, Jr.
Darlene enjoyed being outdoors and tending to her flowers, and the time in the kitchen baking cookies with her grandchildren. She also looked forward to a shopping trip, especially when she could browse around at Kohl’s! More than anything, she loved spending time with her family; her grandchildren lit up her world! A loving mother and devoted grandmother, she leaves her family with countless memories that they will cherish for years to come.
A public viewing will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026, from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc., 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. Funeral services will begin at 1:00 PM, at the funeral home, with Pastor Josh Simonetti officiating. Burial services will immediately follow at Union Cemetery in Bellefonte.
