Gayle E. Nichols, 73, of Bellefonte, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Friday, April 10, 2026. Born August 16, 1952, in Tyrone, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Margaret (Walk) McClellan. On September 10, 1975, in Bellefonte, Gayle married Albert L. “Snuff” Nichols, who survives at home. Together they shared 50 years of marriage built on love, devotion, and family.
Gayle attended State College High School and devoted her life to her family as a homemaker, creating a warm, loving, and secure home for those she cherished most. She was a faithful member of Watermark Church in Bellefonte.
She found great joy in the outdoors, especially time spent at the family’s Copperhead Camp. Gayle enjoyed riding her bicycle, walking through Halfmoon Hill, and rarely missed an opportunity to take her beloved dog, Kato, on long walks.
In addition to her husband, Gayle is survived by two sons, Gene A. Ripka and his companion, Annette, of Pine Glen, and Scott L. Ripka of Bellefonte; a grandson, Cody A. Ripka and his companion, Raelyn, of Ebensburg; and a great-grandson, Weston A. Ripka.
She is also survived by her brother, Frederick W. McClellan and his wife, Cherry, of West Decatur; her sister, Teresa J. Ripka of Milesburg; and many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Terry L. Ripka, who passed away on March 5, 2009.
In accordance with her wishes, all services will be private.
