John F. Goss Jr of Sunset Beach North Carolina passed away peacefully on June 15, 2022 after a valiant battle with lung cancer. John was born on November 26, 1940 to his late parents (John and Helen Goss).

He was preceeded in death by his parents, his wife (Shirley), daughter (Cherie) and 2 sisters (Nola, Raenelle). He is survive by son John Goss (Robin) of Port Matilda, Pa, daughter Danielle Hayes (Mathew) of Wilmington, North Carolina, Sister Sally Stiver of State College, 4 grandchildren Tiffany Goss (Casey Rung) of Phillipsburg, Pa, Garrett Goss (Cassi) of Goldsboro North Caroina, Checlie Goss (Jake Bierly) of Penns Valley Pa and Harper Hayes of Wilmington North Carolina. John was also a Great Grandfather to Lila Goss and Jacob Bierly and soon to be Owen Rung.

Upon graduating high school (Bald Eagle Area High School Wingate Pa) John joined the US Army where he served as a Communications Analyst. From the John began a long a illustrious career with the Federal Government at the National Security Agency. John retired in 1995 and moved to Sunset Beach North Carolina not long after.

John was an avid golfer, often golfing the courses of North and South Carolina 3-4 days a week. His 2 greatest golf accomplishments were his Hole in one on September 26, 1993 and his low score of 74 on April 27, 2021. John also enjoyed going on cruises with long time friend Nancy Reed. He would take many pictures and proudly shared those with friends and family. He was also a persistent and patient man who once spent months training a wild squirrel to take peanuts from his hand and posing on a homemade “Wild Idol” platform as if playing a saxophone.

When not golfing you could find John sitting on his screened porch watching others hit there T Shots at the first Tee on Sandpiper Bay Golf Course. Or you could find him out in his yard picking up pine cones that had fallen after a windy night.
